The Dog Days of Summer are Here!

Greetings, Blitzers. Are you enjoying all the reruns on TV? Well, I guess even Hollywood needs a summer vacation. Now, here at PhotoBlitz.US Central, there have been no reruns. New stuff all the time, that's been our aim. But ya know, it is summer...and it's been really, really hot down here in SoCal.,,,and, well, we just haven't been out Blitzing in the usual way. Lots of Blitzettes, but other than Tim's recent Big Bear adventure,.. What I'm trying to say is, who wants to go out in that heat??? We sure don't! As it is, Tim's regular gig has him out in that hot, humid ickiness all day -- and this week he's working OT, he's on-call... I'm surprised he hasn't melted! So, we're a little low on stock (pics) right now. And since the Blitzing has been curtailed -- the PhotoBlitz.US summer rerun season has begun!

For the next, I dunno, two, three, twelve weeks, (whenever this heat ends) please feel free to revisit previous posts. Enjoy the pics, enjoy the odd writing, and get that warm, fuzzy feeling all over again. Also, be sure to go to the PhotoBlitzUS page on Facebook for bits of photo-related stuff. Now, if you really need some new pics, check out Tim's Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/45159964@N08/) and RedBubble.com pages (http://www.redbubble.com/people/blitztim) which he regularly updates.

Until we return to our regularly scheduled programming, hasta later, Blitzers!

I Can See for Miles and Miles and Miles and Miles and...

Can you believe Tim clicked this pic from the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro!!! No? Ok, how about Mt. Everest? Uh, would you believe a mountain made out of a molehill? Ok, fine, I give up. Now I'm not going to tell you where it was taken, so there. Hah!

...

Darn! I can't keep a secret from you lovely Blitzers. It's a view from Jackrabbit Trail, looking out towards Perris Lake in our own Southern California. Now ya know. And since knowledge is powerful, you're like 100% more powerful than you were just seconds ago. No need to thank us. We are, as always, here for you.

Hasta later, Blitzers!

Tim's (Semi-)Daring Adventures in Big Bear, Part II

Greetings, Blitzers. Well, I haven't had a response from Tim regarding my tale of his swashbuckling bravado and adventurous escapades during his stay in Big Bear Lake. I'll take that as, "Lisa, this time you've gone too far -- there were no pirates." (I'm guessing he's okay with the Sasquatch and other stuff though.) So, I guess I'll have to bring you the real story, as per our interview, which went more or less like this:

Lisa: "So, Tim, what kinds of awesome things did you do in Big Bear?"
Tim: "Uh, ... I didn't really do anything."
Lisa: "You took that tour boat ride."
Tim: "Yeah."
Lisa: "And the fire roads?"
Tim: "Oh, yeah."

(And you wonder why I make stuff up...)

What I did manage to get out of him was that he had a very relaxing birthday getaway in Big Bear. (Tim likes to get away by himself on his birthdays, and Big Bear is one of his favorite spots, which made it a perfect choice for his annual retreat.) His HQ for the trip was the Snow Bear Lodge, a nice, inexpensive place, within walking distance of the village. Tim said he enjoyed a comfortable room, complete with an in-room jacuzzi. (What a birthday treat!)

So what did he do during his trip? He Blitzed!

See, Tim wasn't exactly alone during his trip...he had THE PENTAX!!! Yes, the tough little DSLR was his best buddy during the trip and together, they Blitzed Big Bear, explored old mines and fire roads, and met cool locals, including Rick Shoup, the CEO of the Big Bear Lake Resort Association (www.bigbear.com) This was fortunate, as Tim had an opportunity to learn a lot about the resort town, including job opportunities and housing. (Sporting goods are big, and lots of places to stay.) But, back to those fire roads...

Tim did have one precarious adventure during the trip, while trying to reach the Holcombe Valley. After a visit to the Doble Mine, Tim took a fire road which he thought would lead to the valley; it actually led him to get stuck. Fortunately, our intrepid BlitzTim was able to gather large rocks and create a section which the trusty Pathfinder could drive over, without bottoming out. It worked and no damage was done. (Later that evening, after the rock-moving episode, that jacuzzi came in handy!)

So, Blitzers, that's the real story. Three days of clicking pics and living the dream! (Well, minus that fire road incident, which wasn't so dreamy). Click here to see more pics of Big Bear and pirates...okay, Tim, no pirates. (Gosh!)

Tim's Daring Adventures in Big Bear, Part I

Sssssh! If you look closely, right there, to the left, just under the cover of dense forest, you'll see a Sasquatch, aka "Bigfoot". See it? Nah, I don't either. But Tim sez it's there, and who am I to argue? I wasn't there, so I can neither confirm nor deny that Tim was able to catch a glimpse of the legendary creature whilst on vacation in beautiful Big Bear Lake, California. Let's just say that he did and leave it at that.

Space aliens. Or at least the exterior of their intriguingly advanced space ship. Oh, the locals say it's a solar observatory. Sure it is. That's clearly where the space aliens observe the sun while flying around it. (We know a space craft when we see it, don't we, Blitzers?) Fortunately, Tim was able to avoid abduction by the space aliens, which is a good thing. Would be really hard to get a hold of his pics if he were out orbiting the galaxy.

The giant boulders Tim didn't actually have to outrun. They were stationary. Now, as for the Finnish ninjas jumping off of them, well, thanks to all his stealthy photo-ninja reflexes, Tim was able to get away unharmed and with the Pentax intact.

Finally, the boat Tim took for a three-hour tour. (Or maybe it was 30 minutes, who knows? He didn't say. Though he did mention they traveled in a counter-clockwise direction. Obviously, he pays attention to the important details. That's what makes him a Maestro.) Anyway, the ship cruised along the lake peacefully... until it was overtaken by Pirates! Oodles of them! Were it not for Tim's quick escape on, uh, an escape boat, who knows what might have happened? In fact, I'm not quite sure where that fine sailing vessel is now... No one knows. (But I hear the crew is hanging out at Desi's in the Village, a local restaurant.)

So, Blitzers, that's my tale of Tim's Daring Adventures in Big Bear. As for Tim's version of what really happened, stay tuned tomorrow for more pics and the real deal on Big Bear. Until then, don't forget to Follow Your Blitz!

8.16.2010

Congrats, Tim!

Pics from the Big Bear Blitz are so close, you can almost see them. But not yet. First, I have a little announcement to make: This really cool pic which Tim snapped of some "Geothermal Mud Mounds" was selected as a Featured Pic in RedBubble.com's "Volcanoes, Earth Geology, and Atmosphere" group page. Yeah, Tim!

Click here to check out more of Tim's work on RedBubble.com. Images are available as cards, prints, posters, and whatever other items Tim selected.

Okay, really working on that Big Bear Blitz, so stay tuned, they're on the way. Until then, hasta later, Blitzers!

Slacking

Yucaipa, as seen from Morton's Peak. Somewhere down there Lisa is doing laundry and writing. Tim is thinking about doing laundry. Neither has actually put together the Big Bear Blitz. But soon, very soon, we'll treat you to a nice selection of pics. In the meantime, Lisa needs a nap. Hasta later, Blitzers!

No Big Bear Blitz Pics Tonight...

But check out this frozen yogurt -- it was awesome! See yesterday's post for our winning yogurt combos. Keep enjoying your weekend, Blitzers. Hasta later!

We Interrupt Tim's Big Bear Blitz...

...to bring you absolutely no important message. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Not even a pic. Sadly, the computer has gone slightly berserkers and refuses to upload one. But have no fear, Blitzers. We'll most likely have something good coming up this weekend. On a bright note, Tim and I had some awesome frozen yogurt this evening. If there's a Frugo's near you, try mixing the Irish Mint, Chocolate Custard, and Vanilla flavors, topped with walnuts and almonds. Add a splash of caramel sauce (my choice) or marshmallow (Tim's favorite). Mmmm, delicious! No need to thank us for this frozen treat advice, Blitzers. Remember, WE are here for YOU. If it means making recipes part of what we offer, then so be it. We aim to serve.

Hope your weekend is off to a great start everybody. Have a great time and remember to Follow Your Blitz!

8.12.2010

...And, He's Back.

Greetings, Blitzers. News flash: Tim has returned from the land of Big Bears, refreshed, renewed, and ready for a Big Beer. Or even a little one. But, hey, he's earned it. Did a nice Blitz over the past few days. Preliminary pics are most impressive. I'll be conducting an extensive, in-depth, and hard-hitting interview with him tomorrow evening and you'll get the real facts on all his wild escapades: Encounters with a Sasquatch! Abduction by Space Aliens! Outrunning a Giant Boulder, Pirates AND Ninjas -- from Finland!!! (Okay, I have no proof any of these events actually happened. But they could have. Strange things happen in the mountains, that's all I'm saying.)

In any event, you'll get the inside scoop on Big Bear, find out what Tim really did up there, and see the pics. Brace yourself. This could get crazy.

Until next time, hasta later, Blitzers!

Big Bear Blitz Update

Tim is still up in Big Bear, making the rounds and Blitzing. Venturing out into the untamed wild, he was temporarily stuck on a fire road. Though initially fearing he might not make it out, he was able to clear some rocks and get back on the road to adventure. YES! No further reports available at press time, but I'm sure he's fine. (How Big Bear is surviving both Tim and the Blitz, I have no idea. It's probably okay.)

Maestro BlitzTim will be back some time tomorrow, so there will be more pics following very soon. Until then, Follow Your Blitz!

The Blitz is Back On!

Hey, Blitzers. Long time, no chat. How's the significant other, kids, dogs, goldfish...? Glad to hear it. Your PhotoBlitz Team is doing great. Tim's recovered and has gotten his game back on with astonishing speed. I'm doing just nifty, thanks. Which brings us to new business.

Just the other day, Tim said he thought the blog was a little Blitz-deficient. You know, back in the day, we were posting a variety of Blitzs. Now, it's just been a series of Blitzettes, with quotes. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but he felt we need to get back to our roots and give you MORE! So today, on his 53rd birthday he's in Big Bear -- Blitzing. Just for you. Because he cares. For YOU. No thanks required. It's what he does.

I, on the other hand, am diligently working on today's post because, well, that's what I do. I'm also working on a surprise. Yes, because I care about you, too. Exciting, isn't it? You'll hear about it soon, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy this pic of Big Bear taken just hours ago. More Big Bear to come, and more Blitzs to enjoy very soon. Until then, hasta later, Blitzers!

CH-CH-CHanges...

Greetings, Blitzers. Well, things around here have been changing at the speed of light. Just days after returning home from the hospital, Tim was released to return to work. Boo! But, he made it through the day and then received a package full of awesomeness:

Yay! A fancy, schmancy, navy blue Pentax K-x DSLR. (Ya, navy blue.) Cool, huh? And with that, Blitzers, Tim has taken a giant leap into the stratosphere of advanced amateur photographers. Not that he wasn't already Blitzing Bigtime, but now he's got equipment that will keep up with his vision... So now what?

I'm not sure.

PhotoBlitz.US started as a creative collaboration, but as the experiment has continued, it's become clear that Tim and I have different strengths and goals. There is no doubt that Tim is a photographer, first, foremost, above all. It's what he does. It may be what he's doing at this very second. (The evening light is good right now.) With Tim's new lease on life, his new camera, and his desire to explore new avenues, he will no doubt continue to be an unstoppable force of Blitzosity.

Which leaves me.

Unlike Tim, I'm not a photographer first. I am a writer/thinker/idea person who likes to click pics. I also like to connect, to share, to communicate. That's what this blog has been about: sharing Tim's work (and a little of mine), sharing my ideas (and some of his), and getting you all to share in that excitement. I hope we've done that. But now it's time to move forward. Not move on, but forward.

There are plans in the works to make this more YOU AND US, rather than just US. With all that's happened recently, PhotoBlitz.US is being re-evaluated and re-designed. This blog will continue, but it may be a little less Blitzy for the time being, as time and energy will be poured into developing the newer, bigger PhotoBlitz.US site. We still have plans for a PhotoBlitz portfolio, but that's on hold for now. So hang in there with us during the remodel. We'll still have fun and there will still be pics. Also, be sure to check out the Facebook page for random photo tidbits.

Hasta later, Blitzers. We'll be back.

Excelsior! Take It Straight to the Top!

The Blitz is Back, baby! Yes, we are back on a semi-regular basis for the next week. Then we'll think about stunning you with an avalanche of PhotoBlitz-tastic-ness! Or, we may take naps. Hard to say right now. We're still kind of tired. But I did want to update you on our Tim. He's recovering at such an astounding rate, he may undergo genetic testing to ferret out those mutant X-Man codes for regenerative ability. Some weird kind of Wolverine thing, I dunno... Well, whatever it is, it worked and I'm not gonna question success.

Now, tonight's post is a bit of a surprise for Tim. I told him I probably wasn't going to start the ball rolling again until Monday, but now that he's home, he's been working on some pics. He gave me this one and a few others tonight and I'm so thrilled that he's bounding back so quickly...Well, I've got to start sharing them with you! This is a picture taken on a hike the day before "The Event" and edited just days after. How far he's come, so fast. YES!

Well, Blitzers, keeping it short and sweet. Have to get up a little early tomorrow. Tim, uh, left the Pathfinder's headlights on and needs a jump in the morning. Looks like everything's getting back to normal. (Thank God!)

Hasta later, Blitzers!

"A single rose can be my garden;
a single friend, my world."

~ Leo Buscaglia ~

Greetings, Blitzers. Welcome to a new day. A day filled with promise. A day of gratitude. A day of life. I am so very thankful: Tim is going to be okay.

Yesterday, Tim and I were going to go over some pics after work. I left my job a little before he did, and got a text just as I got in my car. He wanted to let me know he was leaving soon and would let me know when he got home. But, he added, he didn't feel too well. Maybe it was the heat. I responded that he should definitely start drinking more water, now that summer was here. About 30 minutes later, I received a text that he was in the emergency room.

"I'll be right there," I wrote back.

Driving like the wind -- but always within the speed limit -- I pulled into the parking lot. The Pathfinder was there. Okay, I thought, I'm in the right place. Hurrying in, I was given a paper visitor's bracelet, allowed through the double-doors by security, and immediately pointed in the direction of his bed. There he was. I was so relieved to see that he was conscious and appeared well. Tired, but well.

He told me how, just as he left work, he suddenly felt a burning discomfort in his chest. He felt fatigued, hot, a little nauseated. Maybe it was the heat, but it didn't feel right. So he stopped to get a snack and something to drink. That might help. But it didn't. As he sat there, he looked up the street at the hospital. He probably had indigestion, Tim thought, but then, what if it was something else? In that moment, he made the decision to go the the ER. In that moment, he saved his life.

I stayed with Tim until one o'clock in the morning, talking to him, holding his hand, trying to keep him calm and relaxed. Trying to keep my own fears hidden, honestly. It was a long evening of waiting for results, watching the monitors, talking to doctors, and trying to get him comfortable. After some adjustments to the meds, he felt well enough to look at his laptop. We did a quick post to the blog. (Yes, I know, we need help.) We found out he would be kept at least one night. He'd be transferred to a room as soon as paperwork was done. And, he was finally given something to eat. After a snack and a small amount of pain medication, he began to doze off. I said goodnight, spoke to the nurse, and headed home.

After a few short hours of sleep, I was just heading to the shower when I received a brief text from him, "I'm in ICU." I woke up very, very fast. I sent another quick text to his son, then hurried to get ready. On my way to the hospital, I spoke to his son a couple of times, learning that Tim (as I'm sure you've guessed) had suffered a small heart attack. He wasn't going anywhere.

What can you say about hospital stays and procedures? They are involved. Lengthy. Many details of which I won't, well, detail. But everything oh-so-necessary and thank God for them and the wonderful people who make them happen. Tim, his kids, parents, siblings, and entire family and I are so grateful to them and, though they may never read this, God bless them all. HE knows who they are. Thanks to these people, in the last 24 hours or so, Tim went from being very close to not here (literally passing over and being brought back), to being his usual goofy/cranky/etc./Tim-san self. The difference that has been made in his condition is remarkable. Thank you. Amen. Whew.

At times like these, It's hard to avoid sounding cliché. But I will try.

When a life event like this happens, a moment of clarity occurs. Situations, emotions, people...all take on an intensity of which we may not have previously understood or fully grasped. That of which we are already aware, now burns itself into our consciousness. That which we did not comprehend, becomes apparent. That which we feel, overwhelms. This is the moment when what you knew you valued, now becomes an immeasurable treasure.

I've gotten to know Tim really well over the past eight months. We've spent a lot of time together talking, hiking, texting, watching movies, sharing music, Blitzing... In many ways, he's the kid I wish lived next door when I was a kid. He's also the person who, in a very short time, has changed so much in the vibrancy of my days, helping me find my focus and spurring me to fully engage in life again. Though I am blessed so far beyond measure with so many beautiful, kind, loving, supportive friends (many of whom I've known for much of my adult life), Tim is different. Tim is, as I've written before, the kindred spirit. We inspire one another's dreams and ideas in a way that -- for me -- has not happened with anyone before. It's as if we have a muse that guides us creatively. But it's not only that. We connect...and that connection has changed.

When you stand by the hospital bedside of someone seriously ill -- whether it is a spouse, a child, a friend, a family member -- you understand how much that person and their well-being and happiness means to you. I can't explain the depth of my emotions fully, other than to say that seeing Tim with his children and knowing that they will have many more years to share together fills me with such complete and utter joy, that the computer screen is a watery blur. To know that I could be there for him and his family members even makes me appreciate that the sorrows I have experienced in my life prepared me to be strong now. This is a level of friendship and love that runs deep: this is kinship of the soul. It cannot be imitated nor replaced, and no matter where people's lives and journeys take them, this is a bond that can stretch across the universe and never break. Yeah, it's like that.

It's late. I'm tired. Tim's indisposed. It's been a long couple of days. So, Blitzers, I hope you will understand that the blog may not update for a few days. Taking a break to focus on what matters most. Though this is an amazing project that we really, truly enjoy, compared to Tim and his healthy recovery, it's not important. Though we will be back, if we had to give it up so he'd be okay, then so be it. Loved ones, relationships, life...in the end, what else matters? Nothing.

In the meantime, Blitzers, enjoy your Fourth of July weekend. Be safe. Follow Your Blitz.
